I was recently featured on Appleton's Doing Music podcast, and it was such a great experience! You can check out the full episode now on Spotify. Interestingly, a clip from the podcast went viral after Appleton posted a snippet of me saying, "Just because you have a ton of gear doesn’t mean you’re going to make great music." While it was taken a bit out of context and ruffled a few feathers, I’m really glad they shared it. Honestly, if they had run it by me beforehand, I probably wouldn’t have approved it, but the way it sparked a broader conversation online was valuable.
The debate that unfolded around gear versus creativity got people thinking deeply about what truly makes great music. For me, it’s important to stress that not having access to expensive gear shouldn’t stop anyone from getting started with music production. Tools like a CL 1B compressor or a vintage RCA mic might be nice, but they aren’t what makes a song great. It's the music, the ideas, and the soul behind it that matter most. So, I’m thankful the clip got people talking and helped challenge some assumptions in the music world!
